Obverse: Right facing bust of Eucratides I, wearing crescented helmet adorned with bull's horn & ear. Draped & cuirassed headgear. All within dotted border.
Reverse: The caps of the Dioscuri / Dioskouroi each adorned with palm frond, monogram below.
Legends in Greek: BAΣIΛEΩΣ EYKPATIΔOY - Translation in English (King Eucratides).
Condition: VF, toned.
P.S: This coin has a beautiful portrait. It is a lifetime issue which is much rarer than the later posthumous issues. The coins with the M monogram are the most common type that is found in abundance and floating in Indian as well as many other international auctions world over. Out of the 7 Diademed Obols which are much common and circulated the most, there were only 3 lifetime helmeted Obols issued by this ruler.
Background: It is up to O. Bopearachchi have confirmed two Eucratides. He completely revised the timing of these kings who ruled the borders of Hellenism, the gates of India, on the borders of present Afghanistan, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. Eucratides I managed to stay for more than 30 years in a fragmented state where many usurpation took place including that of Menander I. Eucratides I was assassinated in 145 BCE by one of his son. The type with a helmeted bust and the Dioscuri on the reverse is well known.
